19) Bethel Stone. In the Old Testament Book of Genesis, chapter 28, we read that the prophet Jacob fell asleep and used a stone as a pillow. We are told that God gave Jacob a vivid dream, and when Jacob awoke he declared that this stone represented the God of Israel, and called the stone "Beth-El," meaning "God's House." This stone became the symbol for the God of Israel. Upon closer examination, however, we discover that there is more to the story and the symbol ... as you will see below. |
